FEFA’s leadership met with the leadership of the Independent Election Commission
Mohammad Naeem Asghari acting director and Mohammad Omid Noorzai Head of Election Department of FEFA met with Mr. Awrangzeb chair, Mr. Mawlana Abdullah Deputy Chair and Mr. Qoqandi member of the IEC on March 7, 2021 to discuss about FEFA’s proposals on election reform and amendment of the election law. At the beginning of the meeting Mr. Naeem Asghari acting director of FEFA congratulated Mr. Awrangzeb and Mr. Mawlana on their election as the chairman and deputy of IEC and provided information about FEFA’s recent activities on electoral reform. He talked about FEFA’s proposal on amendment of the election law and stated that FEFA developed the proposal based on the shortcoming and challenges of recent elections. Therefore, FEFA believe consideration of the proposal and its incorporation in the election law can decrease fraud, election violation, election mismanagement and electoral deadlock. Subsequently, Mr. Mohmmad Omid Noorzai talked about the need for electoral reform and the actions needed to be taken to practically start electoral reform. Then, Mr. Awrangzib, chairman of the IEC thanked FEFA its support and proposals and said, “FEFA has always been a colleague to IEC and always supported IEC through its proposals and recommendation packages.” He added that major part of FEFA’s proposal on amendment of the election law has been considered by IEC and IEC has incorporated them into its proposal for amendment of the election law. He thanked FEFA for the proposal and said that FEFA’s proposal has helped them a lot while codifying their proposal. Subsequentl, Mr. Awrang and Mr. Mawlana talked about their working priorities. Mr. Awrang said that his top priority is cleaning the voters list or preparing a credible voters list to prevent or decrease fraud in elections. He added that using technology in election and developing special application for use in elections is also his priority. Then Mr. Mawlana talked about the need for reforming the electoral procedures and guidelines and said that the IEC is about to start the reforming them. At the end, The IEC promised to send the proposal on amendment of the election law to the Ministry of Justice for processing within 2 days.
