FEFA’s Proposal on agenda of peace negotiation

War is an ominous phenomenon which negatively impinge upon all arenas. War results in bloodshed and maiming people. War is the factor of backwardness and cause corruption. The Afghan war has also damaged Afghanistan. As a result of the war, Afghanistan relies on foreign donations. Democracy also faces challenges in war and its institutionalization is difficult. The Afghan people have given a lot of sacrifices and are tired war and violence. Commencement of negotiations between the US and the Taliban in Doha opened a window of hope for bringing peace into Afghanistan. The peace talks between the Taliban and the US lasted for more than 1 year and its main agenda was withdrawal of the foreign troops from Afghanistan and Taliban’s commitment on lack of use of Afghanistan soil against the US and its allies. Agreement between the US and the Taliban paved the ground for direct talks between the government of Afghanistan and the Taliban but the demands and requests of all layers of the society from the peace process and the way reaching a long-lasting peace is very important. Therefore, FEFA as an independent supporter of democratic processes, transparency and accountability conducted consultation meetings in 5 zones of the country and 5 focus groups with the political parties, civil society, women rights activists, university lecturers and experts. The outcome of these meetings was a proposed declaration on peace which included specific recommendations on different stages of peace process addressed to the government, political parties and the international community. The recommendations of declaration are about creating national, regional and international consensus on peace process, peace strategy, negotiation delegation, and agenda of peace talks, mechanism of peace talks, timeline for peace process and other relevant issues.
