There are not serious problems on specifying the borders of districts for holding district council election

Geodesy & Cartography Head Office The electoral reform joint working group-FEFA held its sixth advocacy meeting with head of Geodesy & Cartography Head Office. The representatives of political parties, civil society organizations and media were also present in this meeting. Mr. Salehi, election officer of FEFA talked on behave of group and thanked the Cartography institution for taking part in this meeting. Subsequently, Mr. Salehi presented information on background and working objectives of the electoral reform joint working group. Then, he urged the head of the Geodesy & Cartography Head Office to present information on performance of this institution. Eng. Abdul Rauf Yari, head of the Geodesy & Cartography Head Office appreciated FEFA’s electoral reform initiative and said that the Afghan Geodesy & Cartography Head Office work along with the Independent directorate of Local Governance and Central Census Organization. He said that the main responsibilities of the Afghan Geodesy & Cartography Head Office is planning and implementation of topogeodesy, cartography, metadata, photogrammetry and developing topography, physically, political, touristic and geographical maps. He also said that the Afghan Geodesy & Cartography Head Office is responsible for strengthening national economy and preparing national atlantics. This office is also responsible for procurement of all technical, geodesy, cartography and other necessary tools needed by government and non-government institutions. He said, “The Afghan Geodesy & Cartography Head Office works closely with the Independent Election Commission. This office specified the borders of provinces for Independent Election Commission in first election. “He also said that the Afghan Geodesy & Cartography Head Office developed a new map in 2015 and specified the borders of all 364 districts. Mr. Yari said that except a few problems there is not serious problems before specifying the borders of districts for districts council election. According him, some urban areas and districts locate at the same location and does not belong to a specific district which is a problem before specifying the borders of districts. At the end of the meeting the technical deputy of the Afghan Geodesy & Cartography Head Office presented information on the maps they developed in 2015 and said these maps are published by publication of this institution. Altogether, the evaluation of new maps also indicate that the borders of some districts are still not specified.
