Consultation meeting about Peace
FEFA held a consultation meeting about peace with elites of Herat province. The objective of this meeting was gaining input from the representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, ulema, women rights activists and university lecturers about peace process. The meeting participants were 30 people from the political parties, civil society, community leaders, religious leaders and university lecturers. The meeting began with a presentation about the war and peace process of Colombia. The presenter (Omid Noorzai) presented detailed information about experience of Colombia and then the participants asked their questions relevant to the topic. Subsequently, the meeting participants were divided into 3 groups to work on specific questions already prepared and distributed to them. After the groups concluded their works, they presented their views and answered the participants’ questions. The main points raised by them were as follow: 1. People of Afghanistan are tired of war; 2. The government must create national consensus about peace; 3. Peace and elections are both priorities for Afghans; 4. The main principles of democracy like women rights must not be ignored in peace process; 5. The people of Herat province support peace process.
