Student event in Paktia
Free & Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan (FEFA) regularly monitor the sessions of Wolesi Jirga and Meshrano Jirga. Alongside, monitoring of these two houses of the National Assembly, FEFA hold students event in provinces to encourage youth take part in political processes. This time FEFA held a student event in Paktia province where Senator Fawzia Saddat attended to give students information about the authorities of Meshrano Jirga and encourage them to take part in political processes. Totally, 54 university students attended this event to get information about Meshrano Jirga and its activities. Fawzia Saddat said, “There are two types of senators: elective and appointive. One part is appointive and the rest is elective who are introduced to Meshrano-Jirga by district council and provincial councils. Meshrano Jirga held 2 plenary sessions and 3 committee sessions in a week.” Then a participant (Asadullah) asked that, what is the difference between Wolesi Jirga and Meshrano Jirga? Fawzia Saddat answered, “Both have equal authorities but Wolesi Jirga can give vote of confidence to ministers wherease Meshrano Jirga can’t do it.” At the end of this event. Fawzia Saddat promised to be in contact with youth and pave the ground for Paktia youth to observe the sessions of Meshrano Jirga. She asked FEFA to help her in this regard.
