Town Hall in Khost
Objective of this town-hall was institutionalization of principle of accountability, increasing public trust on elective bodies, creating relationship between MPs and their constituents, and giving a chance for MPs to directly talk to their constituents and note their problems. Part one FEFA had identified Khust problems before the town-hall and selected the following 4 major problems to be discussed in town-hall: 1- Transit and transportation; 2- Lack of airplane flights to Khust; 3- Lack of electricity and public problems in this regard; 4- Agriculture challenges. At the beginning of the town-hall the representative of civil society explained the problems and then the members of provincial council and representative of Khust in Wolesi Jirga talked on them. 1- Lack of electricity Civil society: Mr. Wali Khan Yaqubi, representative of civil society, said, “People of Khust are hardworking people and majority of its citizens are working in other countries especially in UAE. People of Khust have relatively good economy. People of Khust can build factories can create work opportunities but lack of electricity in Khust is a major challenge ahead of building factories.” He urged the government and representatives of Khust in parliament to review the issue of transferring electricity to Khust.
