Town Hall in Nangarhar
FEFA’s parliamentary monitoring department held a town-hall meeting in Nangarhar province on August 17, 2017 where 55 people including members of Nangarhar provincial council, representatives of civil society, women rights activists, tribal leaders, youths and public attended discuss the problems of their province. The objective of this meeting was paving the way for people to sit face to face with their representatives in elective bodies and share their problems with them. It also aimed to enhance public trust on elective bodies and strengthening the principle of accountability. The major problems of Nangarhar province were already identified and categorized by FEFA and the residents were invited to attend the town-hall meeting and present more details on them to their representatives in elective bodies to share them with government for undertaking measures to solve them. Residents of Nangarhar had major problems in 3 fields: 1, education; 2, agriculture; 3, health. Henceforth, invited members of Nangarhar provincial council and majority of Nangarhar representatives in parliament to appear in this meeting but the representatives of Nangarhar province to Wolesi Jirga didn’t appear in this meeting. Among Nangarhar representatives to Wolesi Jirga, Haji Amir Jan Dawlatzai, Dr. Esmatullah Sheenwari and Senator Lutfullah Baba had promised to appear in this meeting but when the meeting began they declined to appear and declared due to workload they are unable to attend this meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, Engineer Abdul Baqi Rasheed, FEFA’s citizen outreach officer, welcomed participants of the meeting and presented information about FEFA, its objectives and programs. He also apologized for absence of representatives of Nangarhar to Wolesi Jirga in this meeting but promised to deliver the detailed report of this meeting to representatives of Nangarhar province to Wolesi Jirga and convince them raise their voice for solving Nangarhar problems and share the problems with government to undertake the necessary measures for solving them.
