Consultation meeting about peace
These meetings are conducted to gain inputs from different layers of society such as the political parties, civil society organizations, community leaders and university lecturers. This meeting was conducted in Mazar-Sharif on September 11, 2019 where 30 people from the political parties, civil society organizations and community leaders attended to express their views on Afghanistan’s peace process. The meeting participants were divided into 3 working groups to discuss the questions related to the group and come up with specific answers for them. Then the groups were given time to explain their answers and share their views with others. The meeting participants were emphasizing on wrapping up peace talks and stating that the people of Afghanistan are tired of war. The main points raised by the meeting participants were as follow: 1- People of Afghanistan need peace; 2- Residents of Balkh support the peace process with the Taliban; 3- All layers of society must have role in peace process; 4- Women rights, freedom of expression and respecting human rights are major achievement of post-Taliban regime which must be preserved. The meeting was conducted very well and about 12 journalists had covered it.
