Women Political Rights Advocacy Group (WPRAG) held a meeting with Qassem Alemi on 27th June 2018
Members of the Women Political Rights Advocacy Group of FEFA met with Mr. Qassem Alemi, technical deputy minister of justice, on June 27, 2018, to share its proposal on strengthening women membership and participation in political parties. At the beginning of the meeting, Mrs. Mariam Arween, Women and Youth Outreach Officer of FEFA, presented information about the Women Political Rights Advocacy Group and said, “The group has developed proposals about strengthening the role of women in the political parties. Before developing the proposal, member of the group studied the laws and procedures on the political parties and then developed the proposal. The proposal included 2 parts. The first part includes women challenges and problems in the political parties and the second part includes makes recommendations on amendment and reforming the laws and procedures on the political parties to strengthen the role of women in the political parties.” She stated that the proposal was shared with the chief executive of government (Dr. Abdullah Abduallh), the deputy chairman of IEC (Mrs. Wassima Badghisi) and Mr. Aman Riazat (Deputy of Ministry of Justice). The proposal makes recommendations on the amendment of the following articles of the law on the political parties: • Paragraph 2 of article 9 must allocate one-third of seats for political parties to women; • Paragraph 6 of article 12 must obligate the political parties to introduce candidates in elections given gender-balance; • Paragraph 1 of article 15 must exempt women from paying membership fees to political parties;

Members of the Women Political Rights Advocacy Group of FEFA met with Mr. Qassem Alemi, technical deputy minister of justice, on June 27, 2018, to share its proposal on strengthening women membership and participation in political parties.
Subsequently, the Technical Deputy Minister of Justice thanked the group for developing the proposal and said, “Ministry of Justice receives the draft laws and proposals from outside. The Ministry, itself, does not originate draft laws. It receives proposals and draft laws from outside. The Ministry scrutinize them and before approving them makes sure they don’t have any technical and written problems. He also talked about the problems and shortcomings of political parties, implementation of the law on the political parties and role of national political parties in the improvement of the society. “The political parties which are not national will create ethnic problems in the society. There are some political parties which operate in contradiction with their statutes.” He heralded amendment of the laws and procedures on the political parties and said Ministry of Justice is consulting with the government about the formation of the committee on the amendment of the laws and procedures on political parties. He vowed to invite the representatives of the civil society organizations to the meetings of amendment of the laws and procedures on the political parties. Then he promised to share the proposal on strengthening women role in the political parties with the Committee on Legislation of the Ministry of Justice and invite the representatives of FEFA to attend the sessions of the committee on amending the law on the political parties.
