International Election Observation Mission (Sri Lankan 2015 Parliamentary Election)

FEFA is a permanent member of the Asian Network for Free Election and has close relations with the election section of OSCE. Given its mandate, FEFA support women political rights and monitor the performance of democratic institutions. FEFA is committed to professionalism and make every efforts to enahance the capacity of its staffs and stakeholders. Therefore, FEFA deployed a staff member to Sri Lanka to cover/observe the Sri Lanka 2015 parliamentary elections and share her experiences and lessons learned with the colleagues in FEFA. Sri Lanka held its parliamentary elections on August 17, 2015 to elect 225 member of Sri Lanka’s parliament. The United National Front for Good Governance won 106 seats of parliament in this election. However, the opposition party; United People’s Freedom Alliance won 95 seats. The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) the largest party representing Sri Lankan Tamils, won 16 seats, an increase of two from 2010. The remaining eight seats were won by Jonathan Vimukthi Peramuna , Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and Eelam People's Democratic Party . Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, leader of the UNFGG and UNP, was able to form a national government with the support of UPFA MPs loyal to President Maithripala Sirisena. Sri Lanka had 25 Administrative districts, 22 Electoral districts, 160 polling divisions and 12.021 Polling stations.  Period from announcement of election to nominations  Pre-election propaganda/electoral campaign  The polling day and results announcement
