FEFA held the 8th coordination meeting with electoral commissions and election stakeholders

The Election Department of Free & Fair Election forum of Afghanistan (FEFA) held the 8th coordination meeting with electoral commissions and election stakeholders on December 27, 2017 at FEFA HQ. The meeting was attended by the representatives of electoral commissions, the Independent Directorate of Local Governance, Ministry of Women Affairs, UNAMA, Afghan Women Network, Youth Pro-Democracy Organization, Election Watch Organization, Electoral Reform Advocacy Group, OFRD and FRD organization to exchange view about how to strengthening coordination between electoral commissions and election stakeholders. It is worth mentioning the representative of the Civil Status Registration Authority was also invited to attend the meeting and provide information about issuance of national ID cards but he didn’t appear. At the beginning of the meeting, Mrs. Maleha Hassan, member of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) provided information about IEC’s activities and plans and said, “The draft of MoU between electoral commissions is finalized but hasn’t been signed because chairperson of the Electoral Complaints Commission in an official trip. Additionally, the recruitment process of head of provincial offices of IEC was supposed to begin last week but the former heads of these offices complained about the process to parliament which postponed the recruitment process.” She also heralded the United Nations and international community has promised to provide fund for preparation of voters list. However, they declared the date already set for holding upcoming election is unrealistic and therefore it will likely change.” Subsequently, Mr. Mohammad Nazari, head of public relation department of IECC provided information about the complaints recorded on assessment of polling centers and said, “The IECC had decided to handle the complaints regarding the assessment of polling centers from November 2 to 11, 2017 but the IEC did not upload the list of assessed polling centers in its website within this date so the IECC decided to extend the date for receiving and handling the complaints for 30 more days.
